Saluki Way Dead?
Remember the good old days when Saluki Way was going to include a substantial academic component? Now that the new football stadium is finished and the basketball arena is nearing completion, I wondered what was next. So I went to the SIUC website and searched for “Saluki Way.”
The first result links to the athletics page. In fact, five of the first ten results link to the athletics page. Three are old news articles from the Daily Egyptian. One is the link I inserted above. The tenth result is a webcam at the plant service operations website attempting to show construction progress. The webcam wasn’t working when I clicked the link.
I scrolled down a bit and found a timeline – also on the athletics page. The last item on the timeline is the first basketball game in the remodeled arena on November 1, 2010.
I checked the main SIUC page thinking I might have missed the link to Saluki Way. No such luck. I clicked the “about” tab on the SIUC page and didn’t see a word about Saluki Way. I clicked the A to Z index and didn’t find anything there.
If the university is serious about the student services and academics component, wouldn’t there be a link to an overview of the entire project on the main SIUC page? At least to me, it’s starting to look like Saluki Way has a gloomy future.
Is Saluki Way dead? Will the student services and academic buildings ever be built? Did anyone doubt that Saluki Way would end this way?
Comments are welcome.
