City Council Meets Tonight

with 4 comments

The Carbondale city council meets tonight at 7:00 p.m. at the city hall/civic center. As usual, I’ll be watching from home on Mediacom channel 16. You can see this week’s agenda here.

You’ll notice that there is no item on the agenda dealing with the Carbondale Convention and Tourism Bureau’s decision last week to nearly double the size of its board. That’s to be expected. CCTB’s move was a surprise, and I suspect council needs time to prepare possible responses.

Of course it’s always possible that a council member could bring up CCTB during council comments. It’s also possible that a council member could pull item 4.5 from the consent agenda. That item appoints the city’s representatives to the CCTB board.

I’m curious to see how it goes.

Comments are welcome.

  1. I was unable to attend the meeting tonight but heard there would be discussion of the death of Molly Young. I’ve heard many things involving this poor girls death and would like to know what they are doing about it? It seems the news covered it for a couple days but nothing was ever mentioned after that. Any information regarding this would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you!

    • Rachelle – During council comments, a friend and former roommate of Ms. Young spoke on behalf of her family. He explained that she had been shot in an apartment in Carbondale and that the Illinois State Police have taken over the investigation. He asked that anyone who has information call the State Police.

I have also been surprised at the lack of news coverage of Ms. Young’s death. It is my understanding that the apartment where she died is rented by an employee of the city – possibly an employee of the police department. If the information I received is correct, that is why the investigation has been referred to the Illinois State Police.

I haven’t written anything on this matter because information has been hard to come by and because I don’t want to add to the suffering that Ms. Young’s family and friends are going through.

I hope and expect that the State Police will complete their investigation as quickly as possible and that the facts will be released to Ms. Young’s family and the public.

      Thanks for the comment!

      • I truely appreciate the feedback about the meeting. I had heard that some friends or family may be there due to the situation but wasnt for sure. I am glad to hear that the Illinois State Police is now handling this case. There is also a new release in The Southern today about her with some, but not much, information. It does definately seem the story of her death is beginning to come out. My heart goes out to her family and friends and hope the truth will come out. Thank you for the response and your information.

  2. Anonymous – I reluctantly decided to remove your comment. You didn’t violate the comment policy. I just don’t want to have this page become a forum for speculation on what might have happened to Ms. Young. It seems to me that the best thing is to let the investigation proceed and to let her family grieve privately.
